International Algebraic Conference dedicated to the memory of Z.I.Borevich

St-Petersburg, Russia

September 17-23, 2002

An International Algebra Conference, in honour of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Z.I.Borevich, will be held in Saint-Petersburg, September 17-23, 2002. The conference is Organised jointly by the Saint-Petersburg State University, Saint-Petersburg Branch of Steklov Mathematics Institute of RAS, Saint-Petersburg Mathematical Society, Euler Mathematical Institute and TPO "Severny Ochag".

Zenon Ivanovich Borevich (November 07, 1922 - February 26, 1995) was an outstanding algebraist. He made extremely important contributions in homological algebra, algebraic number theory, especially local fields and Galois modules, integral representation theory and the theory of linear groups. Jointly with I.R.Shafarevich he authored the famous monograph 'Number Theory' which received world-wide recognition. Over many years he was one of the leaders of the Algebra and Number Theory school in Saint-Petersburg.

The conference will cover all areas of Algebra, with special emphasis on topics close to the research interests of Borevich. We plan plenary talks and both major talks and short communications in six thematic sections: Group Theory, Rings and Modules, Algebraic Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry, Algebraic Groups and Representations, General and Algorithmic Algebra.
